KUANTAN, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- National junior hockey coach Muhammad Dharma Raj Abdullah has been appointed as assistant coach of the national senior hockey squad.

Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah made the announcement after chairing the MHC meeting, here today.

Also appointed were Nor Azlan Bakar and K Gobinathan as assistants to Dharma, thus completing the line up led by national senior coach Paul Revington.

The national senior hockey squad faces six major tournaments this year including Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, Commonwealth Championships and the Asian Cup.

"With this line up, I hope we can become Asian Cup champions and qualify automatically for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016."

He said the MHC would announce a new coach for the national junior squad soon to fill the vacuum left by Dharma.

"For the time being, Lim Chow Chuan and Tai Beng Hai have been given the responsibility to identify players to be absorbed into the national junior squad."

Tengku Abdullah also said Mohd Nasihin Nubli Ibrahim and Lailin Abu Hassan have been retained as coaches for the national women's senior and junior teams.
